Afton Chemical and Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics nurture the next generation of future leaders and experts for China’s petroleum additives industry

Afton Chemical Suzhou presented the 6th and 7th Afton Lubricants Technology Scholarships to Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP), China Academy of Sciences’ Researchers at Afton’s Suzhou Technology Center on March 10, 2023.

In his speech, Afton Chemical Asia’s Technology Director, Liang Ke Jian, praised the directors and supervisors of Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics for their strong mentoring of these young researchers.

The Afton Richmond R&D team had their first technical exchange with the LICP team and toured the analytical and mechanical laboratories, as well as the Customer Experience Center in Suzhou.

As one of the world's leading lubricants additives companies, Afton helps to keep critical equipment moving across mobility, transportation, agriculture, construction, energy, and manufacturing sectors. The future of these segments will be shaped almost entirely by emissions reduction, fuel economy, and efficiency improvements. The Afton Lubricants Technology Scholarship recipients produced excellent research outputs in chemistry and physical sciences, which will aid the industry in developing future-proof solutions.

“The Afton Lubricants Technology Scholarship is consistent with Afton’s ‘Made For’ strategy, which is built on the intent to understand the dynamics of each market and ensure we are developing correct solutions based on the region’s demand and needs. This joint research program of this scholarship allows LICP’s researchers to understand and address key challenges in the fuels and lubricants additive industry, allowing them to develop future innovative additive technologies that exceed industry standards,” said Liang.

Academician Liu Weimin, LICP, said, “The Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences is proud to partner with Afton Chemical in building the next generation of future leaders and experts for the petroleum additives industry. Since the establishment of the Afton Lubricant Scholarship in September 2016, the LICP Master and Ph.D. scholarship recipients have benefited from these scholarships, allowing them to focus on research and learning, as well as enabling their fullest potential.”
