Adhesion/Demist Agents
Tackiness agents are designed to improve lubricant adhesion under a variety of conditions. These products are versatile enough for use in a wide range of applications.
Antioxidants
Afton Chemical has a broad portfolio of antioxidants for use in industrial lubricant and grease applications: Ashless, metal-containing, sulfur, sulfur-free, phenolic-free, aromatic and non-aromatic.
Detergents and Dispersants
This very diverse product line offers performance attributes for an array of industrial applications. Products include calcium detergents, ashless dispersants, and many functionalized products.
Extreme Pressure and Antiwear Agents
Afton specialty chemicals are available for applications where extreme pressure and wear are important factors. These products include chemistry that is metal-free (ashless) as well as zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) chemistry.
- Ashless antiwear and EP chemistry: These products are generally based on sulfur and sulfur/phosphorus chemistry with zero-chlorine or very low levels of chlorine. The sulfurized olefins available have a low but noticeable odor. This low odor is often regarded as one of the strengths of Afton Chemical EP chemistry. Several sulfur/phosphorus products are available, ranging from amine salts of thiophosphates, to neutral dithiophosphates.
- ZDDPs: Our ZDDPs are tailored for specific applications including hydraulic, grease and paper-machine oil lubricants. In addition to exhibiting excellent antiwear properties, ZDDPs are also effective antioxidants.
- Friction reducers: Many products are available which are designed to improve film strength, reduce stick-slip phenomena, reduce noise and improve efficiency.
Pour Point Depressants
Afton Chemical manufactures an assortment of pour-point depressants based on polymethacrylate chemistry. These pour-point depressants are formulated for both broad applications and specific base oils.
Rust Inhibitors
Our rust-inhibitor technologies range from simple calcium detergents to more complex ashless products. The ashless products include highly efficient, more-acidic types, which are effective at extremely low dosages. Completely neutral products are also available to provide excellent resistance to contamination from water and other substances that routinely affect performance.
Seal Performance
Our seal swell additives are formulated to improve the lubricant’s elastomer compatibility. This is particularly important with Group II, III, and synthetic base oils.
Viscosity Index Improvers
Afton Chemical has a variety of chemistries to improve viscometric properties. These chemistries are based on olefin copolymers (OCP), polymethacrylates (PMA) and polyisobutylene (PIB), all of which are available in functionalized or unfunctionalized form. Functionality typically brings dispersancy and cleanliness characteristics. Many of these products are specifically designed for certain industrial applications and bring performance advantages to the formulation.
Yellow-Metal Protection: Dialkyl-dithiadiazole
These "sulfur scavengers" provide excellent copper corrosion protection in a variety of applications. Specific products are also available for ease of handling.
