Richmond, VA, August 16, 2005 -- Afton Chemical Corporation has begun marketing a new high-performance, cost effective polymeric additive, developed to cope with the higher pressures and temperatures in the latest mobile hydraulic systems.
“With pump pressures that can exceed 6,000 psi (400 bar) and sometimes even 7,000 psi (500 bar), the resulting high temperatures demand a special additive that can support the viscosity required for effective film thickness and machine efficiency,” said Ian Macpherson, Marketing Manager-Industrial. In addition to improving film strength, the new additive is also formulated to reduce susceptibility to water contamination, which Macpherson said can lead to hydrolysis, “giving rise to corrosion, filtration, and pump problems.”
This patented technology has already been approved by Parker Hannifin and other hydraulic pump OEMs. The new addition to the HiTEC® line is being produced in one of Afton Chemical’s Texas manufacturing facilities.
Afton Chemical Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of NewMarket Corporation (NYSE:NEU).
